Essentially a wading bird, living in the damp woodlands, steams and boggy areas
More InformationWoodcock are essentially wading birds which inhabit damp woodland, often within pheasant woods, but they feed predominantly nocturnally around streams, pasture fields and on boggy ground, and prefer denser cover during the day.
The resident population in Britain is increased by a large over-wintering migrant population. Swooping, erratic flight makes it a prized quarry, particularly on walked up shoots.
